Kyra Lombard
A native of upstate New York, classical pianist Kyra Lombard is currently pursuing her graduate studies at Mannes School of Music under the tutelage of Eteri Andjaparidze. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Oberlin Conservatory, studying with Peter Takács.
Kyra’s recent engagements include performances at Stiefel Hall at Mannes School of Music, Lake George Music Festival, Schroon Lake Music Festival, PianoFest in the Hamptons, and Warner Concert Hall at Oberlin Conservatory. She has given solo recitals at the de Blasiis Music Series at The Hyde Collection, the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, and the Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum. Additionally, as a prize winner of the Rosewood Fanning Piano Competition, Kyra performed Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor with the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra at Proctors Theatre. She has performed in Picotte Recital Hall at Massry Center for the Arts at the College of Saint Rose, the 2022 Cleveland Cello Society Winners Recital, and the 2021 Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition Winners Concert, as well.
Kyra is a 2021 National YoungArts Foundation Honorable Mention winner in Classical Music. Furthermore, she was awarded first place in both the Tuesday Musical Scholarship Competition and the Ithaca College Piano Competition, and won the Gold Prize in the December Musicale Music Festival. She was also featured as a WMHT Classical Student Musician of the Month.
Kyra has attended such festivals as PianoFest in the Hamptons, Lake George Music Festival, Orford Music Academy, Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy, and Bowdoin International Music Festival. She has learned from artists such as Yefim Bronfman, Lowell Liebermann, André Laplante, Gary Graffman, Jerome Lowenthal, Alexander Korsantia, Ursula Oppens, and others. Furthermore, she was previously selected to participate in an Oberlin-Como masterclass with William Grant Naboré as part of Oberlin Conservatory’s partnership with International Piano Academy Lake Como.
Kyra is also passionate about working as a collaborative pianist and in chamber ensembles. She is currently employed at Mannes School of Music as a College Piano Accompanist, Senior Student Assistant Specialist, as well as a Student Assistant for the College of Performing Arts Admissions Team. She was chosen to participate in the MJD Outreach & Partnerships through The New School, and loves to perform for people in her community, such as at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sunrise at East 56th, and the Kendal at Oberlin.
As a teacher, Kyra is passionate about working with students of all ages and levels. It is an immense honor and joy for her to be a part of the personal and musical growth of others and to help them find their unique voice. Kyra is eager to foster a welcoming and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to explore and discover the joy of making music, to develop a true love and appreciation for it, and to know the profound impact that it can have on each of their lives. She hopes to foster curiosity, courage, and creativity in each of her students, and believes in the power and importance of caring for them each as individuals.
