Our Mission
Learning how to create music as an ensemble is an integral part of music education. As such, being part of a choir is one of the most fun and effective way to improve a child’s musicianship. At Opus One Music Children’s Chorus, students will develop their singing abilities while learning valuable team-working skills. Our singers will explore a diverse range of repertoire – classical and folk songs of various traditions – and will have the opportunity to perform and showcase their work throughout the year in an encouraging and supportive environment.
Our Artistic Director
Beatriz de Mello comes from a diverse musical background and has been mentored by some of the greatest icons in the choir world, including Dr. Mark Shapiro at Juilliard in New York, Harold Rosembaum also in New York, as well as Gary Graden and Sabine Hortsmann at Westminster Choir School in Princeton, New Jersey. Kodály (early musicianship) studies were completed at New York University under Dr. Jerry Kerlin. Possessing a natural charisma towards the younger generation, Ms. De Mello has conducted children’s choruses at Carnegie Hall, NJPAC’s Victoria and Black Box Theater, and other venues. She is passionate about helping students to acquire proper vocal technique and reading skills, at the same time that they experience the immense joy of singing.
