Edmund An

Pianist Edmund An is developing a professional career as a performing artist & educator, after being awarded First Prize in the International Hannover Tasten Olympia in Nanjing, China. Born into a musical family, both of Edmund’s parents are musicology professors in major universities back in China. He began learning piano at the age of 5 with his mother, and had been studying with Dr. Chuan Qin from the Fine Arts School of Shandong University since the age of 12. Edmund has performed as a soloist throughout China, United States and Europe, in Venues such as Shandong Grand Theatre, Teatro Principal de Burgos, DiMenna Music Center in New York City and so on. In summer 2020, Edmund’s appearance as a guest soloist with the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra at Qingdao Grand Theatre was extremely well received. He also performs regularly in Master’s Voice Graduation Recitals at Shandong University of Arts as an visiting accompanist. Appeared in many public masterclasses, Edmund received recognitions from numerous world-renowned musicians and concert pianists, including Klaus Baessler, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Naum Grubert, Michael Leuschner and Norman Krieger. In addition to his performance engagements, Edmund is also an active writer & music reviewer. His recent online magazine “A Guide to Listening to Music” has been publishing thoughtful articles (music reviews, musicology papers) monthly, which has gained thousands of followers back in China.

After completing his Bachelor of Music degree with the late Phillip Kawin and Dr. Marc Silverman, Edmund An is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree with Dr. Silverman at the Manhattan School of Music.
